About the Architecture + the City Festival (September 10-30)
Presented by the Center for Architecture + Design in collaboration with the American Institute of Architects, San Francisco Chapter (AIASF), the 18th annual Architecture + the City Festival continues to offer behind-the-scenes programs, walking tours, literature, live presentations, and more that provide an excellent opportunity for all communities to experience architecture and design in a myriad of ways throughout the city. Every September, the festival reveals the many facets and layers of San Francisco, and how architecture and design play a key role in this ever-changing urban landscape.

Join us as we talk, tour, and play in Kapwa Gardens, an ambitious project taking a vacant 9,000 SF parking lot and transforming it into a healing space to help SOMA recover from the devastating mental, physical, and economic effects of COVID-19. Kapwa Gardens is located in the SOMA Pilipinas Cultural District and is destined to become a new cultural anchor. Bold colors, swing bamboo trees, living walls, and psychedelic murals make Kapwa Gardens a unique urbanist project. Over 350 volunteers came together to build Kapwa Gardens during the height of the pandemic.
Studio Sideproject is a Collective Design Practice that is passionate about drawing attention to the unseen. Our work is strongly rooted in community engagement, justice and advocacy with an emphasis on public space and joy. We believe that exceptional, experimental design belongs in under-served communities and spaces with open access for the public. As Californians from different corners of the world--immigrants and first-generation citizens--we are long term Bay residents and are defined by our connection to the area, its built environment, its people, and its diverse and inclusive flavor.
