Join Us For Pekiti-Tirsia Kali On May 22!
Taught BY Agalon Nathan Chin
Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is a combat system based foremost on geometry. It is a way of using arcs, angles, and positions to our advantage. The motions and structures aren't designed to be lonely, rather they come alive when they respond to other motions. Grandtuhon Leo T. Gaje Jr. enjoys deploying the acronym of COMBAT as "Counter On Motion Before Attack Time" and emphasizes the system's use of constant counterattacking. To get to that point one has to train steadily to build correct body mechanics for movement and striking, as well as understand how to maintain and change range and position. Once the fundamental lens has been focused, it becomes much easier to see how the principles and structures such as the bisecting line are shared across weapon categories, and the system is able to continually evolve with every practitioner's understanding.
For this Many Styles workshop, Nathan will follow the theme of bridging the gap and closing distance. Pekiti-Tirsia's emphasis on footwork and quartering allows for some fun problem solving, while also teaching practical goals for controlling range in combative situations.
